Co-workers and I were just having a discussion the other day about how schools across the country are no longer teaching how to write in cursive. Kids need to learn and maintain the ability to put their thoughts down on paper, not just on a computer. From writing their name to drawing their first picture, having the ability to have pencil in hand is something no child should ever be deprived of. 
I really love to have a ton of BIC mechanical pencils around the house. My daughter has been using them since early on in elementary school and will continue to use it as she heads off to college in just a few short weeks.
