I think subscription boxes are one of the most fun things you can get or give as a gift to someone, especially themed boxes from other countries. For the last year or so, I have been obsessed with learning more about Japanese culture, especially their delectable cuisine. Recently I was introduced to two new Japanese subscription boxes that I’m excited to share more about.

Sakuraco

About Sakuraco

Our journey began in 2015 when we started sharing popular Japanese snacks across the world with our sister brand, TokyoTreat.

But because enjoying a cup of tea with traditional sweets has always been an important part of Ayumi’s life, she wanted to share more of the roots of Japanese snack and afternoon tea culture.

Since 2021, Sakuraco has become a thriving community of food lovers, makers, and artisans, dedicated to sharing the authentic taste of Japan with the rest of the world.

By bridging the gap between local makers and the rest of the world, we’re able to support small business and promote cultural exchange, while also giving you a unique and authentic taste of Japan.

Sakuraco offers a subscription box for the more mature palate and those who enjoy flavors that pair well with a delightful cup of tea. This month’s box celebrates the Autumn Moon and contained delightful treats, tea and even a special dish in honor of this month.

The autumn moon has long inspired countless Japanese folktales, weaving stories with themes of beauty, mystery, and the ephemeral nature of life. The September box includes:

  • Tsukimi Ryokucha Tea
  • Tsukimi Mikan Cream Cookies
  • Tsukimi Dish
  • Kokuto Kinako Mochi
  • Usagi Pon Senbei
  • Usagi Hozui
  • Cocoa Black Soybeans
  • Tsukimi Candy
  • Chestnut Dorayaki
  • Kodaimai Senbei
  • Custard Taiyaki (my personal favorite)
  • Hokkori Sweet Potato
  • Lemo Baked Chocolate
  • Black Sesame Miso Arare

The September Autumn Moon box was jammed packed with so much flavor and tastes of timeless heritage that I was excited to partake in. I love that the Sakuraco box has introduced me to new flavors that I was not familiar with or had seen locally. The box enables you to find the perfect pairing of sweet treats with a warm tea during tea time each day.

Each monthly box highlights different prefectures and regions in Japan. Each box contains 20 authentic Japanese snacks, candy and more. For October 2024, you can subscribe through October 15th and await a delightful box that highlights the splendor of autumn in Kyoto.  You can subscribe as much or as little as you like, from 1 – 12 months. The more months you subscribe, the more money you save. I love that you can see exactly what you will get in the box and not be surprised with things you may not want or be able to enjoy.  Subscribe today and trust when I say you will not be disappointed.

Tokyo Treat

About Tokyo Treat

Tokyo native Ayumi loved sharing snacks with her friends overseas. Then she had an idea – to share Japanese snacks and her culture with the world!

Starting on her living room floor in 2015, Ayumi hand-picked and packed Japanese candy and snack mystery boxes that she thought people would love – snacks with uniquely Japanese flavors and textures that represented Japan! But she realized she couldn’t do it alone.

She built up a small team of Japanese snack experts to achieve her vision.

Together, we’ve sent millions of boxes and shared Japanese snack culture to over 150 countries around the world! But beyond that, we’re so happy that our ever growing TokyoTreat fam decided to come along and explore all the wonderful snacks Japan has to offer with us.

Tokyo Treat offers a subscription box for the the kid in all of us, no matter what our age. The contents are fun, colorful, flavorful and bring a smile to your face. This month’s box celebrates the Autumn Moonfest and contained delightful snacks and treats that perfectly fit the theme and time of year.

Japan’s Moon Festival celebrates Tsukimi, Japan’s harvest moon. The September box includes:

  • KitKat Matcha
  • Twist Corn BBQ Flavor
  • Crunky Cookie Ball
  • Caramel Popcorn
  • Cream Collon Lemon Flavor
  • Banana Castella
  • Carlic Shrimp Japanese-Style Chips
  • Premium Black Thunder Butter Flavor
  • Senbei & Peanut Snack Mix
  • Golden moon Senbei
  • Full Moon Rabbit Senbei
  • Champon Noodles
  • Fried Squid Senbei
  • Mini Mochi Candy
  • Mini Moonlight Cookies

The September Moon Fest box was jammed packed with so much sweet and savory snacking, it didn’t last more than a day in my household. This kind of box that contains so much goodness makes it difficult to refrain from wanting to try it all. Fortunately, we are a sharing family and everyone got to try a little bit of each item in the box.

I can’t tell you how excited I am for the October 2024 Tokyo Treat box. It’s going to be filled with so much spooky goodness and I can’t wait! You too can subscribe through October 15th and await a treat box jam-packed with Halloween fun.  You can subscribe as much or as little as you like, from 1 – 12 months. The more months you subscribe too, the more money you save. Tokyo Treat also shares exactly what you will get in each month’s box and not be surprised with things you may not want or be able to enjoy.  Subscribe today and get ready for a fun experience like no other.

  • Sakuraco scammed me during the checkout process – I was buying a one-off simple box and they “upgraded” it to the 12-month premium subscription just before I processed the payment.
