When I was younger, nothing brought me more joy than having a new book in my grasp and delving into the pages of a new and exciting story. Reading has always been one of my hobbies and that has carried on with my children. I have a new series that I’ve introduced to my daughter, who has absolutely loved reading – Kelcie Murphy Series by Erika Lewis. This trilogy includes three titles including Kelcie Murphy and the Academy for the Unbreakable Arts, Kelcie Murphy and the Hunt for the Heart of Danu, and Kelcie Murphy and the Race for the Reaper’s Key.
ABOUT THE SERIES
The Academy for the Unbreakable Arts, written by Erika Lewis
A 2023 Teacher Favorites Winner (6th-8th Grade) for the Children’s Book Council
Brimming with Celtic mythology, action, and danger, Erika Lewis’s Kelcie Murphy and The Academy for the Unbreakable Arts introduces readers to a new kind of magical school and a warrior who must choose with which side of an epic battle her destiny will lie.
The Otherworld is at war. The Academy for the Unbreakable Arts trains warriors. And Kelcie Murphy―a foster child raised in the human world―is dying to attend.
A place at AUA means meeting Scáthach, the legendary trainer of Celtic heroes. It means learning to fight with a sword. It means harnessing her hidden powers and―most importantly―finding out who her parents are, and why they abandoned her in Boston Harbor eight years ago.
When Kelcie tests into the school, she learns that she’s a Saiga, one of the most ancient beings in the Otherworld. Secretive, shunned, and possessed of imposing elemental powers, the Saiga are also kin to the Otherworld’s most infamous traitor.
But Kelcie is a survivor, and she’ll do whatever it takes to find her parents and her place in their world. Even if that means making a few enemies.

OUR REVIEW
The Kelcie Murphy series is a wonderful journey in to folklore and the magical world of classic Celtic mythology. Having come from strong Irish roots in my family, this was a pleasure to share with my daughter. The first book gives you an overall introduction to the characters, the place in time and adventure that is to come for Kelcie. It introduces Kelcie to her past and paves the road to the adventures to come. This was especially telling for me, as it gave my daughter the intrigue of her own family history and sparked a wonderful conversation.
The second book in the series tales of Kelcie and her second year attending the Academy and brings more characters vantage points into the story. This book builds what is to become the final tale of Kelcie’s journey, but does not disappoint as it is filled with and abundance of adventure and excitement.
The third and final book in the series brings everything together. While we are still reading this final book, thusfar, it has brought about Kelcie’s role as the heroine and can finally bring an end to the attacks and war threatening everyone.
This series has a mysterious, mythical and magical feel, similar to the Harry Potter Series, and is targeted to kids in 6th – 8th grade (8-12). Each book has several hundred pages each and will be a true joy for any reader.
