Make Friday Movie Night All About the Girls with Freaky Friday
Having been a single mom most of my daughters life, we are close and have always had great times together, but as time has passed, I know that she is going to be leaving the nest after college and heading off to start her own life, her own family and make her own memories. That is why I wanted to make this year different.
In 2018, all year has brought a new tradition for myself and my young daughter. We have a dedicated Mother-Daughter night where we plan something different outside of our normal dinners out or movie watching.
We have taken traveled to new destinations, taken part in murder-mystery dinners, taken a painting class and much more. Well, September brought us the opportunity to do something different, but with a memorable twist. She adored the original movie, Freaky Friday when she was a young girl, so when I asked her if she wanted to have a night at home with pampering and a new release of Freaky Friday, she was excited!More about the Movie
A contemporary musical update of the classic comedic story, “Freaky Friday” is based on Disney Theatrical Productions’ stage adaptation of the celebrated novel by Mary Rodgers. Sixteen-year-old Ellie Blake and her uber-organized mom Katherine, are constantly at odds about Ellie’s messy room, sloppy clothes and seemingly careless attitude. Ellie really misses her dad who passed away a few years ago; she bickers with her younger brother and argues with Katherine who’s getting ready to marry her fiancé, Mike – tomorrow. As mother and daughter quarrel, they accidentally break the treasured hourglass given to Ellie by her father and then, suddenly, they magically switch bodies. Now, Ellie and Katherine must trade places at work and at school, and, during one crazy day, they’ll learn to understand and appreciate each other.
This new movie has a fun, youthful feel and a fabulous musical twist, unlike the first movie. Tons of singing and dance scenes make it engaging and a delight to watch. The movie has a very similar storyline to the first one, but brought elements of new stories and scenes to moderize it and make it its own hit.
Freaky Friday stars Cozi Zuehlsdorff as Ellie; Heidi Blickenstaff as Katherine; Ricky Heas Adam; Alex Désert as Mike; and Jason Maybaum as Fletcher.
