Murran by F.F. Fiore

Sitting down with a good novel and reading an intriguing and captivating story has always been one of my hidden hobbies.  I don’t seem to have enough time to read as much as I used to, but when given the chance, I will get lost in a novel for hours.  As is the case with this new novel I have found, “Murran” by F.F. Fiore.  Read more below about this amazing novel.

Murran

Synopsis

Frank Fiore’s Murran opens with an unusual predicament for the protagonist, Trey.  He has just returned to the United States and he is stopped by airport security, who has him listed as a wanted fugitive.  The charge is murder, and Trey only nods before allowing himself to handcuffed and taken to security.  A successful opening page grabs the attention of the reader and leaves them curious and wanting more.  Fiore does this and continues to deliver as the story progresses from the brutal gangs of Brooklyn in the 1980’s into the world of the Maasai tribe of Kenya.  In both worlds Trey struggles to find his place before eventually learning what it means to be an adult, a member of a family, and a Warrior in the Maasai tribe.  The novel comes to a head as Trey is forced to come to terms with his past so that he can have a chance for the kind of future he wants.   Fiore’s easy prose keeps the reader engaged and eager to read more.  Murran dives into youth issues that are often overlooked and while the depiction can be startling it also feels genuine.  The novel retains a feeling of authenticity that is punctuated by the rich characterization of people and scene.  The vast difference between the concrete of Brooklyn and dirt roads of rural Kenya are not lost by Fiore who accentuates them with strong descriptors that paint a picture for the reader.  I would recommend this book for readers who enjoy a well-paced story with interesting characters, action, and situations.
