Is it time to take that trip you have been planning for months? You have your tickets purchased, rooms booked, and all the transportation you will need to be scheduled. However, before you walk out your front door and head for your car, there are a few things that you might have forgotten.

#1. A Travel Itinerary

People tend to expect themselves to be more organized than they are, especially when they are on vacation. A travel itinerary will make it possible for you to put keeping up with schedules and responsibilities so that you can genuinely enjoy your trip. You can book your entire trip before you leave your house. Write the addresses and phone numbers of the service providers you intend to use and the agreed times to meet in your travel itinerary, then. As your trip progresses, you will have a schedule of where to go next so that you will not have to be remembering things all day.

A travel itinerary can also be great for group or family trips. You can sit down with the itinerary and discuss each person’s plans and wants for your trip and try to designate some time to do one fun thing for each person. It will also help everyone stay on the same schedule. If you travel by multiple methods of transportation, you can have multiple copies of the travel itinerary made so that each group of people will be on the same schedule.

 #2. Extra Cash and Change

Just because you have everything planned doesn’t mean it will go as you have intended. The car breaks down, someone injures themselves, or you get hungry, and the convenience station’s card machine will not work. All these scenarios have one thing in common: You’ll need cash. It is never a bad idea to take some change out of the bank before you head out; it can be redeposited as soon as you return. Be sure you get small bills instead of large, as some places will not have change for a large bill.

 #3. First Aid Kit

Hopefully, you will not need it, but a first aid kit is a must on any trip. You are likely to be happy that you brought along a first aid kit than you are to regret the decision. When on a trip, the likelihood that you or someone in your party will be injured and unable to reach medical care becomes greater. Even a bandage for a cut can become a desperately important commodity if you are on a busy interstate when someone is injured. So be sure to have a first aid kit packed somewhere where it can easily and quickly be found before leaving your driveway.

 #4. Daily Needs

Although it is great to get away from a daily schedule and live freely for a few days, there are some personal care items that we really can’t do without. Motels normally offer items such as shampoo; however, not all shampoos work for everyone. It’s a superior idea to take along a travel-sized bottle of the shampoo you normally use, just in case you need it. You can still use the motel’s shampoo if you would rather, but it is nice to have your normal shampoo with you just in case it is needed. You should also consider other items that you normally need every day: vitamins, coffee, washcloths, towels, exercise equipment, toothbrush, soap, and toothpaste.

Consider your daily routines; what are the things you need to have to keep yourself functioning? Many people expect the house or rooms they rent to consider some of these needs for them, but many travellers are also finding this is not the case. If possible, call ahead to find out what you will need to bring along. If you can’t call ahead, pack as if they won’t have anything.

 #5. Pain Reliever

Tylenol, Aspirin, or Ibuprofen are travel musts. Many people don’t like to think about needing these things while on vacation; however, they often find themselves desperate and unable to find a simple pain-relieving tablet once they are on the road. Be sure to keep these with your first aid kit in an easy-to-find place.

 #6. Insurance

Be sure that you never leave behind your proof of insurance. Proof of health and car insurance should be in your car before you get inside and should be kept in a place easily accessed. Although finding yourself without insurance in the middle of a trip is not life-threatening, it can make you extremely uncomfortable.

If you need travel insurance, be sure to shop around and find the best quotes. By looking at car insurance companies that will allow you to car insurance compare, you can find the best deals available.

 #7. Warm Clothes and Blankets

If you are going to the Bahamas, you most likely have not considered packing a blanket or jacket. However, warm clothes and a blanket are a must whenever travelling. One warm jacket and a pair of jeans or leggings per person is a must-pack every time you go on a trip. Being cold can ruin a memory like nothing else, so you should be prepared, just in case.

A lightweight blanket is also a must; even if you do not need it for warmth, you still might need it to sit on or to let someone curl up under if the air conditioning is too cool for them.

Now you are ready for that grand adventure you dream of; enjoy your trip.
