As a lover of animals, I’m always excited to share fun tales of creatures of all types. In this new book review, Willard DoGooder and the Trail of Friends, by Jen Kirkley (Author) and M Brayer (Illustrator) we follow a fun journey of five very different animals, and end with a surprising and loving message.

About the Book

Willard DoGooder has trouble making friends in his new class. Things are just … different. One day, he spots a magical trail and sets out on an adventure, where he meets four new friends along the trail. Through these friendships, Willard remembers his teacher’s advice on how to think through differences and appreciate each other just as we are.

About the Author

Jen Kirkley is a wife and mother of four who works as a physician assistant in cardiothoracic surgery. She lives in Louisiana with her family in a house they have enjoyed renovating over the past ten years. On a daily basis, someone in her home is usually dressed up as a superhero or ninja. Jen enjoys running, reading, tea lattes, and road trips.

Our Review

What a delightful read this book is. The book really gives a fun and relatable way to who that, there are differences and uniqueness in all creatures, one universal way to promote unity and acceptance is with kindness. From having the “new school” jitters to feeling embarrassed because you think wearing something different, eating something different or even speaking differently doesn’t mean you have to feel alone or alienate others. I would highly recommend this book for kids, but truly, people of all ages could really take away good feelings and positivity The book is recommended for kids 0+ and has 38 pages of brightly colored illustrations and animals.
