Our hair is our identity. A new haircut can often be the one thing that helps you to both look and feel good. For instance, many women often head straight to the hairdressers following a breakup, as a new hairstyle can be empowering.

It goes without saying you will want to enjoy healthy, luscious locks for many years to come. For this reason, we are offering five effective ways to care for your hair.

  1. Wash Your Hair Two to Three Times Per Week

Washing your hair every day is a big mistake. You might love the feeling of freshly-cleaned locks, but all that shampooing and conditioning could be causing your hair more harm than good. Your hair develops natural oils that help maintain its good condition. Daily shampooing can strip away the oils that protect your beautiful tresses. For this reason, you should wash your hair no more than two to three times per week.

  1. Wash for Your Hair Type

The amount of times you wash your hair can also be determined by your hair type. For instance, people with curly hair won’t have to wash their hair many times per week. The straighter your hair, the oiler your hair will be. Those with super-straight hair might be unable to go more than two days without washing. Speak to a hairdresser for advice on how frequently to wash your hair.

  1. Start Taking Vitamins

There are vitamins and minerals that can promote hair growth. For example, Vitamin C produces collagen that’s integral for both healthy hair and skin. What’s more, it also aids iron absorption, which supports hair growth. For a good dose of Vitamin C, aim to eat more broccoli, citrus and spinach.

B-vitamins are a great way to grow stronger hair at a rapid rate. Biotin is one of the best vitamins to consume, as it’s a water soluble that helps with the digestion of sugars and fats. To boost your consumption of biotin, try to eat more nuts, eggs, fish, berries and vegetables.

  1. Balance Your Hormones

Your hormones can determine the health of your hair. Unfortunately, fluctuating hormones are a leading cause of hair loss or poor hair growth, and it is often the reason why many women experience hair loss after pregnancy.

Balancing your hormones might sound easier said than done, right? Well, it really isn’t. Often, all it may take to tackle a hormone imbalance is to avoid sleep deprivation or to eliminate stress. So, grab an early night or do something that helps you to relax and unwind, such as enjoying a nice hot bath or reading a good book.

  1. A Hair Loss Treatment

Half of all women will reportedly complain of hair loss by the time they reach 50 years old. Unfortunately, hair thinning or loss can happen at any stage in a person’s life. Yet, there are ways to slow down or prevent the process. There are numerous hair treatments available to help you maintain beautiful hair for many years to come. For instance, you can invest in hair growth supplements, shampoos and formulas to help you maintain strong, healthy hair.
