Interstellar Rocketing to Theaters on 11/7 & IMAX on 11/5 & a Fun Space Craft for Kids- #InterstellarCountdown #ad
This blog post is part of a paid SocialMoms and Paramount Pictures blogging program. The opinions and ideas expressed here are my own.
Fall is the best time for my family to head to the movie theater. It seems like they always release the best films in the fall! One film that is set to hit the big screen and IMAX on 11/7 is Interstellar, starring Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Michael Caine, Bill Irwin and Ellen Burstyn.
I am excited to share this movie with my family! We love space movies of all sorts and the previews for this one clearly show it will be exciting and adventurous.
With our time on Earth coming to an end, a team of explorers undertakes the most important mission in human history; traveling beyond this galaxy to discover whether mankind has a future among the stars.
Here is a fun craft my kids did on the complete cycle and phases of the moon
Supplies needed (most all can be found at any craft store):
- 4 small and 1 medium styrofoam ball
- Glittery Star Stickers
- Craft paint – blue, black, green & grey (or silver)
- Black, glittery sticky foam paper
- Poster Board
- Tacky Glue
- Paint Brushes
- Small white shipping labels
Instructions:
- Cut the black sticky foam paper into pieces to cover the entire poster board (this gives the affect of outer space)
- Cut the 4 smaller foam balls in 1/2 and this will give you the 8-1/2 sized moons as picture above. Paint each 1/2 sized ball to represent the 8 phases of the moon (picture above) using the grey and black craft paint – set aside to dry.
- Take the large styrofoam ball and cut about 1/3 of the bottom off. This will represent planet Earth and stick up higher than the moon phases. Paint using the blue and green craft paint to represent the land and water view of the earth – set aside to dry.
- One all of the styrofoam balls are dry, use the tacky glue to place atop of the foam poster board with the Earth in the center and the 8 1/2 moons sequentially set around the earth (as pictured above).
- Place several sparkly, glitter star stickers around the rest of the poster board to represent the space.
- Label the Earth and each phase of the moon (as pictured above).
This will make a fun craft for a science project or even share with the science class. You can also hang it in your little space explorer’s room for them to view and learn!
Remember to take your entire family to see Interstellar in theaters on November 7 and have a wonderful exploration for all!
