There is something special about taking a winter vacation. To enjoy the crisp cold air in a place so picturesque a thousand words couldn’t do it justice, to admire a place rich with history in the snow is almost magical. A snow vacation requires ample play time, which is just good for your soul. If you are looking for a fantastic place to get away and play in the snow, I have the perfect destination for you.

Host to the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics, Lake Placid’s sports history runs even deeper to the early 1900’s when the Lake Placid Club remained open all winter in 1904-1905, beginning the heritage of the first winter resort in America.

Nestled in the Adirondacks, Lake Placid is lovely year round, but there is good reason to head there this winter! If you need to stretch your legs, there is no better way than an afternoon spent ice skating on the new public use ice skating track. Don’t forget about the dog sled rides, or the chance to go tobogganing!

There is more to this lovely place than winter sports. You can take in the sights, enjoy the art, partake in the exceptional diningoptions , or just relax and have a winter spa day, which you have to admit, sounds really nice!

Lake Placid offers couples the chance to say “I do” in a picture perfect wedding. Kids can blow off steam in the snow, Mom can shop in the quaint shops, while Dad is out ice fishing. The possibilities of a winter wonderland vacation are endless in Lake Placid. There are activities and events that will appeal to the entire family!

The month of February is an especially great time to visit the lovely resort town of Lake Placid. The cauldron relighting in honor of the 35th anniversary of the Winter Games is sure to be an event that is destined to be a fond memory. There is also a fun 10 day carnival and a festival that your entire family will love.

  • What a beautiful area! We love getting out for family time in the snow. Is the area also good for cross country skiing and snow shoeing?
