Game Shot

Coming from the Midwest, home of many fun backyard lawn games, I was really excited to try something new and different.  Rollors provided the change and fun we had been looking for.

Before I tell you about this fun game, let me tell you the amazing story of the man behind Rollors.

About Matt:

Minnesota-native Matt Butler is the inventor of Rollors. The concept was first visualized on downtime between deployments overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan supporting combat operations. Upon return Matt developed a prototype in his garage that was well received at BBQs, parties, and other outdoor types of get-togethers. A few months later; around the time of the recession; Matt saw many local veterans out of work that had the resident wood working skills that helped spark the light bulb onto a means to help them. He then decided he wanted to employ local veterans to help construct the wooden disks and wooden, cone-shaped targets used in the game in their home workshops. After countless number of games were handcrafted, packaged and sold through the website, church, craft fairs, and other types of venues it has been distributed in brick and mortar retailers across American and has even started distribution outside of the United States. After helping numerous veterans get themselves back on their feet from the recession he has it developed outside of the United States to be able to get it to a price point so many more people and families can enjoy the fun. Rollors has turn into an award-winning and unique game which is revolutionizing beach and backyard fun. Now, three years later he is taking it a step further by using the platform of his success to consult other veterans needing a second career on how to effectively manage their inventions. He opens the pages of his story of patenting, distributing, and selling his invention in hopes to inspire and guide other retired and active “brothers in arms” with their creations. Let’s roll!

Now a little more about Rollors:

Rollors is a fun new outdoor game that offers a creatively unique alternative to traditional lawn sports. The game combines elements of two old games, Horseshoes and Bocce, to make one easy and mobile game. It includes oversized wooden disks (aka Rollors) that players roll towards a color-coded, wooden goal 25 feet away. Points are awarded to the player/team that positions their disks closest to the goal. It is a great game for all ages and can be played in teams or individual competition.

Rollors game kit includes:

  • 3 Red Rollors
  • 3 Blue Rollors
  • 1 Red Goal Tower
  • 1 Blue Goal Tower
  • 1 Removable Measuring Cord
  • 1 Instruction Sheet
  • 1 Portable Carrying Case

Inside Shot

This game is so much fun and can be played by anyone, young or older.  We just had our weekly backyard bbq with our family and neighbors and I brought out the new game and everyone was ready to learn.  After a few minutes of quick briefing, the games began.

Here is how the game is played:

Only one player scores each round and that is the player with the rollor that is closest to the goal. The measuring cord should assist in determining which player is closest. In the case of a tie neither player scores. All rollers of the closest scoring color to the goal receive points.

In order to score, a rollor must fall entirely within a 5 foot radius of the center of the goal. A measuring cord is provided to measure this requirement. Points are given as follows:

  1. Rollors that land on their side – score a point value equal to the number that is showing.
  2. Rollers that stop on the edge – score a point value equal to the sum of both sides.
  3. Rollers that come to rest against the goal – score a point value of double the number showing.

Play continues with rounds that are started by the last color that has scored, rolling back and forth between goals. To win, a player must achieve a total of 21 points or more, and must have two more points than the opponent.

Yard Shot

I am 110% completely overjoyed with Rollors and would recommend this game to anyone and everyone.
