If you love international cuisine like we do, then you probably enjoy finding easy ways to make it at home. I love Indian and Thai cooking, but the number of ingredients can be a bit overwhelming if you only use a little of this and a bit of that. But, now that I know about Saffron Road Food, I can enjoy delicious dishes from around the world while still keeping it simple in the kitchen.

History

As the brand prepared to launch in 2010, the availability of Halal products were limited, especially in the frozen foods section of mainstream retailers as well as in high end natural foods stores like Whole Foods Market. Saffron Road thus debuted nationally in July 2010 in Whole Foods stores as the world’s first all-natural, Halal-certified, antibiotic free, and humanely raised frozen entree.

Our first product line, four frozen Indian Entrees, were an instant success in all of Whole Foods eleven national regions, encompassing over 250 stores. We’re thrilled that our brand is now recognized as a leader in not only halal, but also as the premium choice in frozen antibiotic free entrees which are also humanely raised and 100% natural. We truly stand out currently as perhaps the only national frozen entrée brand in any major US supermarket in US with these exemplary traits.

Saffron Road seeks to bring its mission and faith-based values to a higher calling with the local and global community, embodying a socially-conscious company ethic, as well as being a dedicated to sustainable farming practices. We hope you and your family will join ours on the Saffron Road– a journey of bringing together families and cultures to share a meal and values around the dinner table.

Products

I love that Saffron Road Food has so many choices of products to choose from. Whether you are looking for a tasty, frozen entree option like Teriyaki Chicken, Vegetable Pad Thai or Chicken Vindaloo, or chicken nuggets/pieces, simmering sauces or even appetizers and desserts, they have something for you! Within one company’s product line up, I can find cuisines like Asian, Thai, Spanish and Middle Eastern!

One of my favorites specifically from their product line has to be the simmering sauces. These are great, single use pouches in a variety of flavors. This is perfect for when you are making a single meal and don’t want to have to buy pretty specific and sometimes expensive ingredients that you may not use very often. For example, the Lemongrass Basil simmering sauce. It’s full of flavors that I may not use in any other dishes, but I’d hate to throw them out. So I can use this pouch of sauce with dinner and not miss out! They even go spicy like Thai Red Curry or Moroccan Tagine.

Review

Saffron Road Food sent me a box containing a variety of products so I could try them at home and share my opinion about them with my readers. Here are a few of my top choices (though I wish I got to try everything!!):

  • Tikka Masala Simmering Sauce: This is a rich creamy sauce, made with ingredients like yogurt, tomato paste, garlic and ginger. It’s rated a medium on the spice chart on the packaging, and if it was just adults eating it I probably would have been fine with it as is. I added a little coconut milk to the sauce before I added it over my sauteed chicken to cool it down a little for the kids. Yum!
  • Chipotle Crunchy Chickpeas: These make for an awesome snack! They are oven roasted organic chickpeas that are then coated in a medium spicy chipotle dust. I liked them straight from the package (which is resealable) and ate them in the afternoon for a protein rich pick me up. I also tossed them onto salads and soups, like croutons, and never missed the bread.
  • Low Sodium Vegetable Broth: I was surprised how flavorful this stock was for being vegetable based. It’s made with leeks, celery, onions, mushrooms, carrots, you name it! Plus, since it’s low sodium, I don’t have to worry about having too much salt in the dish I’m cooking. This worked great for a soup base, but I also used it to boil pasta and cook vegetables in as well.
