Halloween is upon us, and after most of us spending Halloween 2020 indoors, this year presents the perfect opportunity to have some spooky fun. Wherever you are in the world, there is sure to be a top tier event taking place near you.

Here four of the best attractions around the world you can visit this Halloween.

Jack the Ripper Tour – London

For most people, Halloween is a time to celebrate all things dark and scary, and what better way to indulge in something spooky that to retrace the steps of one of the most notorious serial killers in the world? If you’re in the UK – or if you’re a true crime fanatic – head to Whitechapel in the East End of London to learn about Jack the Ripper.

He (or she) stalked the cobbled streets of Whitechapel in the dead of night searching for vulnerable victims to prey on. The unidentified killer remains a mystery to this day, with the streets of Whitechapel being the only witnesses to the brutal slayings. Some say the troubled spirits of the five victims still wander the streets, whilst others ponder if the ghost of the Ripper still slights through.

If you want to know more about what happened between the first and last Jack the Ripper victims being identified and why we’re still so clueless today, go on a specialised Halloween tour.

Poveglia Tour – Venice

When it comes to haunted locations, Poveglia island close to the luxury holiday destination of Venice takes the cake. With more than 100,000 people thought to have died on the island, there is no shortage of troubled spirits. The first ghouls are those of bubonic plague victims. In a bid to keep the disease isolated, those infected with the black death were shipped to Poveglia to die; their bodies burned and left in the ground. It’s thought that 50% of the soil on the island is human ashes.

After the plague, the island was the go-to location for people with infectious diseases. Following numerous epidemics, a psychiatric asylum was set up on the island, and mentally ill patients were sent there under the care of a cruel doctor who, according to records, tortured patients. He was said to be so tormented by ghosts that he threw himself to his death off the island’s bell tower.

It has remained uninhabited ever since, but frequent tours run to and from the island, perfect for Halloween.

Haunted Salem Witch City Tour – Salem

Salem is synonymous with the witch trials of 1692, during which 20 innocent people were accused of and executed for the crime of being witches. One victim was pressed to death, with the remaining 19 being hung. The city has been unable to shake the catastrophic failures that lead to the deaths of so many innocent people, becoming a tourist hotspot for those looking to learn more about the witch trials.

Witches are synonymous with Halloween, and whilst there were no witches in Salem, the city is forever tied to witchcraft. They embrace their history by putting on parades and markets during Halloween, ensuring to remain respectful of those who tragically lost their lives hundreds of years ago.

For a more sobering Halloween experience, Salem is the place to go.

Disney Halloween Parade – Florida

If you want a Halloween that is more magical and joyful than spooky, head to Disneyworld Florida and observe the Halloween parades and After Hours Boo Bash. You can see all your favorite characters dressed in their finest Halloween costumes, as well as indulging in the most beautiful Halloween décor around the park. This is a good option for those who don’t like jump scares but who still want to observe the magic of Halloween.

So, there’s out top four Halloween destinations around the world. Will you be visiting any this Halloween?
