Spring is that wonderful time of year when the snow and ice have melted away, new blooms are sprouting and my garden is getting its annual, seasonal makeover. For a fresh, new looking, we are combining our love of art with our love of the outdoors with these “Paint Your Own” Stepping Stones from Mindware.

More about these Stepping Stone:

These all-weather stepping stone is ready to paint right out of the box, letting you skip messy cement-mixing and get right to the fun part: decorating and personalizing! A dozen vibrant paints allow for endless creativity—mix, blend and add custom color accents. Once painted, bake the stone in your oven for a long-lasting, weather-resistant finish. Display one stepping stone or make a whole pathway to transform your garden, backyard or patio! Each kit includes a 10″ x 9″ cement stepping stone, 12 paints, a paint brush and instructions including a color planning template. Set of 6 includes: Bee, Flower, Mosaic Circle, Butterfly, Snail and Turtle.

Creating is the real joy in these stones. Simply open up the kit, lay down some protective paper to assure you don’t get a mess on your table or counter surface and let the colorful fun begin. We started with the flower because that is the perfect way to start the Spring season off.You can use the template pattern of colors that come with the stone or let your creative juices flow and paint what your desired color scheme is. We did stick to the pattern a bit, and used the smaller features in the center and surrounding the petals to give a different look.Once the piece is completed, bake it in the oven to keep the colors bright and relevant and withstand the weather. I love the stepping stones collection as they are really heavy, durable and a craft project that kids and parents can enjoy together.  We have had such a fun and amazing time creating and painting our stones for our front flower garden. The colors truly are vibrant, bright and make a wonderful, eye-appealing draw to anyone that admires the garden.

  • If my grandchildren and I were in the middle of this project, had finished painting and were baking the stones, it would be incredibly amusing if my son came home from work early. The first place he goes is the kitchen and, if he saw that the oven was on, he’d definitely check to see what was cooking. he’d be stupefied to see concrete baking.
