There’s no doubt that quarantine has been just as hard for animals as it has been for humans. With dog owners staying in the house more than usual, dogs are likely confused as to what has been going on in the outside world. The health and happiness of your dog is the top priority of all dog owners. So how do you keep your dog happy and healthy this summer like no other? With that in mind, here are three ways that all dog owners should consider.

  1. Go on an Outdoor Adventure

After months of being stuck inside, your dog will love the chance to go hiking with you. Dogs are great companions for any type of outdoor adventure, and their owners can also benefit from the exercise.

As well as being a chance for some quality bonding time between you and your pet, hiking can also help reduce any destructive behavior in dogs, as well as combat any depression associated with boredom – something that might have been triggered as a result of the recent quarantine. If anything, it’s also a chance to cool down as the weather gets hotter!

  1. Take Your Dog Swimming

Swimming is a great way to keep your canine companion fit and healthy during summer, and also another chance for them to cool down in the hot weather. This form of exercise is excellent if your pup struggles with stiff or painful joints. You can take your dog to lakes, dog-friendly beaches, slow-moving rivers, private swimming pools, or even paddling pools. Wherever your dog has been for a swim, it is recommended that you give them a good wash after to clean their fur of anything they might have picked up along the way.

Remember – not every dog loves water. Those with short noses (like Pugs) or short legs (like Corgis) will find swimming quite hard work. Give your dog the chance to get used to the water slowly, and don’t push them to do anything they don’t want to do. Even just paddling can be great for pups!

  1. Consider Changing their Diet

As much as dogs love exercise, your four-legged buddy won’t thank you if you forget to feed them! A dog’s diet is considered one of the most essential parts of owning a dog, with the majority of surveyed pet owners saying that understanding the ingredients and nutrition of pet food is essential when they buy it. By choosing the right dog food, you can make sure that your pet stays healthy and well-nourished.

It might be tempting to stick with what you know. Still, adding elements like Yucca schidigera pet food ingredient can improve the health of your canine companion, particularly the production of nasty-smelling gas in the large intestine which reduces stinky stools. While adding Yucca schidigera to pet foods is still relatively new, this natural plant has been used in the diets of livestock and poultry for decades.

Keeping your Dog Healthy and Happy

The list is not exhaustive as there are many other ways to keep your furry friend happy and healthy over the summertime. Because of quarantine, you’re likely to be spending more time at home with your dog this summer, so it’s the perfect time to bond with them and get to know them even better!
