Hoffman Academy HomepageMaking sure our children are well rounded is so important. From education, to sports, and more – it is always great to get your children doing different things. One thing that is usually a hit is music – this includes the piano. If you can’t afford a private tutor, Hoffman Academy is available for a really affordable price for your child to learn how to play!

I love that Hoffman Academy brings fun and effective piano lessons to us via the internet. There are three easy steps to working on the units:

  1. Watch. There are 120 free video piano lessons that help to guide students step-by-step through songs and concept.  I love that they are designed for beginners with no experience. Each lessons is about 5 to 15 minutes long, which is perfect for any busy schedule.
  2. Practice. There are practice instructions with each lesson to help students focus on in between the lessons. Since consistent practice is the key to skill development, it is recommended that student practice each day. I really like that you can go back and re-watch the videos to help master the lessons.
  3. Learn. There are Complete Materials that correspond with each lesson that helps to supplement what they are learning. There are learning activity pages, sheet music, and MP3 tracks so students can hear and familiarize themselves with each song that they will learn.

Riley is 5 and has taken a liking to music. She has messed around on our piano that I learned to play on, and now she is working her way through Unit 1 of Piano lessons with Hoffman Academy. She has learned a lot in a short time and says she can’t wait to learn more. I am re-learning things I was taught in elementary school when I took lessons, which is fun.  Here are things that she is learning:

  • Correct playing technique, posture and hand position

  • How to read and write notes on the grand staff (treble clef and bass clef)

  • How to read, write and perform rhythms

  • How to listen to music and to dictate melodies

  • How to improvise and compose your own songs

  • The basics of music theory, including chords, key signatures, and more

Hoffman Academy Lesson 1Hoffman Academy is perfect for anyone. Especially since the lessons themselves are free. And the Complete Materials for each Unit of 20 lessons is only $19 – which is less than $1 per lesson. This is such a great, affordable idea for your family that I highly recommend! Music is such an important part of a children’s life and there is nothing better than learning to play your own music. I highly recommend Hoffman Academy!
