Laundry 101 – Tips to Manage Your Growing Mound of Laundry #BIZ
Disclosure: This is a sponsored post on behalf of BIZ. Regardless, all opinions are 100% my own.
Laundry – the word that makes some people cringe, while others let it roll off like water off of a ducks back. Laundry has been a chore every household has had to experience for centuries. Today’s amenities make it much easier and faster, and with fabulous products, anyone can become a laundry whiz in no time. As I was folding laundry one Sunday morning, very much like today, I had an epiphany of sorts, my kids know how to load, unload, and put away laundry (sort of), but they don’t know the ins-and-outs of real laundry care from start to finish. That is what compelled me to write a Laundry 101 post, not only as a resource for them, but for anyone starting out doing their own laundry. Let me share some tips with you:
Read Your Labels
Learning what your clothes are made of and how to care for them is where it all of your laundering skills begins. Labels will tell you if your clothes are machine washable, hand-washing required or in need of a dry cleaner.Short of a few nicer dresses in my closet, most of our clothes are machine washable and ready to wear out of the dryer. A few things I recommend are keeping your jeans and dark-darks together. Jeans tend to “bleed” on the first few washing and can really stain up your shirts and socks early own. You don’t know how many times I have had brand-new, shiny white socks come out dingy after one accidental wash in the washing machine with jeans. Remember to read those labels careful and save yourself time and expense of replacing your favorite sweater.
Know How to Sort
In my household, it all starts with the sorting process. I have three categories I like to wash with, darks, lights and linens. Now other households may break it down even further with whites, lights, darks, intimates, denim and linens, but you find what works best for you and your family. Basics would be darks, lights and linens and I am all about efficiency. Most of our clothing is wash-n-wear anyway, meaning it holds up well.
Supplies That Work
Today’s market is FLOODED with brands and products of all sorts. Trust me when I say, I have tried them all. At the end of the day, you need a few basic supplies that have staying power and get the job done. Start with a detergent that is suitable your needs. We have no skin allergies and this enables me to use a basic detergent for the entire family. Stain fighters, now that is a different beast altogether. For generations, the women in my family have passed down tips and tricks to tackle stains of all sorts. From gift and grease, to chocolate and wine, they all stain our clothes at some point and getting them out can be a challenge. Well, what I love about today’s timing is that I don’t need older folklore to remove tough stains – BIZ does all the work with one cap full. For the launderers of this and future generations, let me tell you the wonderful stain remover that is BIZ! BIZ is a fully formulated liquid that allows you to pre-treat or maximize your stain fighting performance, no matter what size.
Pre-treating stains gives you a more concentrated amount directly no the stain and is a great way to get more power for your punch. With protein-based enzymes, peroxides, whitening agents and detergents, BIZ is the total package.
Check Your Temperature
Make sure that you are not only washing like colors with like colors, but assure that the crisp newness of those colors stays longer with the right temperature water. Cold water will get the job done with just about every style or load of laundry you do; however, pre-treated tough stains like grease and oil need a warm to hot amount of water for maximum removal.
Don’t Leave Them Hanging
A few KEY tips I can share with anyone first learning how to launder is never, ever leave a load in the washer or dryer for very long. Clothes left wet or damp in the washing machine for an extended period of time can form mildew and mold. Moving that mold to the dryer can only exacerbate the growth and cause health hazards.
Once a load is ready to go, promptly add to the dryer and get them dry. When the dryer is done, take the final steps in your laundering journey. Get your clothes out and fold them up or hang them up, depending upon the article of clothing and your personal preference. For me, I like to hang pants, jeans and sweater, but I prefer to fold t-shirts and hoodies and put them in the dresser. While I don’t claim to be the guru of all-things-laundry, I do know that years of experience as a launderer, coupled with good advice from others and few innocent mistakes have given me a pretty good handle of laundering things for myself and my family.
If nothing else, here are a few takeaways I want you to remember. Read the labels first and foremost. Use the products that are proven to work, like BIZ. Don’t let laundry build-up and becoming overwhelming. When it doubt, ask for help, do your research and understand accidents will happen.
Oh, and one more thing to remember, spills and accidents occur everyday, sometimes even more than once a day. For those times you are away from home and cannot do a quick wardrobe change, carry things that can treat stains from the onset. BIZ On-The-Go stain eliminator is the perfect answer and fits conveniently in your purse or backpack.
