More Medical Laboratory Scientists are Needed
According to research by the University of Cincinnati, the United States is set to experience a shortage of medical laboratory scientists. 12,000 graduates of online medical lab science programs are needed to keep up with the demand, however only 5,000 graduates are joining the industry each year.
It is quite surprising that more students would rather get a job as a medical laboratory technician as opposed to a laboratory scientist. This is because of the massive difference in wages. Technicians can expect to receive around $40,750 a year, while scientists earn over $20,000 more. The need for laboratory scientists is also pretty much guaranteeing the graduates of an online bachelor of science in medical laboratory science a career. This is not something that can be said for degree holders in other industries.
