A lot happens when running. A lot of pressure is put on your feet even when you are taking a casual jog around your neighborhood, your feet are prone to injury due to the dangerous objects lying around, and there has to be a good level of energy consumption to ensure that you can see the activity to the end.

If you are an athlete or someone who loves a good run, no one needs to tell you how important it is to have a good pair of running shoes. These shoes can help make running easier and increase your passion for it. It also helps to protect your feet by helping to balance out the pressure placed on your ankles. That’s why you cannot compromise on having the correct fit when shopping for running shoes.

Here are some tips to help you out when next you walk into a store looking for shoes.

Your shoe size is more important than you think

When was the last time you had your feet measured to determine your shoe size? I’m guessing you don’t remember. Most don’t bother to check their shoe size before entering a store or having a shoe consultant help them with it because they believe that they still wear the same size they did as teenagers. This cannot be further from the truth.

As we continue to grow, several things happen that can inevitably affect our shoe size. For example, wearing tight point shoes can overtime change the shape of your feet. Also, when you are pregnant, you can’t expect to wear the same size as your feet become larger. Serious injuries can have a part to play in changing the shape of your feet.

Change is the one constant thing, and your feet experiences change as well. So, before you enter the next AU Asics store looking for a pair of running shoes, it would be advisable that you measure the width and length of each foot before settling on a pair. This is to prevent any pain or discomfort that would have otherwise occurred.

What is the correct fit?

Have you ever noticed when running or jogging that your shoes suddenly become tighter? This is because as you move and your feet have contact with the ground, the bones and muscles in your feet widen due to the force that is being exerted on them. Your feet size when you wake up in the morning, would not be the same at the end of the day or after you have spent an hour walking.

To get the correct fit, you can get your running shoes at the end of the day when your feet are a bit swollen or tired. However, it is recommended to get running shoes that are bigger than your normal size by half. This will give your feet some wiggle room as it expands when contact is made with the ground and makes you feel comfortable.

You don’t want to end up with shoes that hurt your toes when running and to avoid this, make sure you try the shoes put first. When next you go to the shoes store looking for a pair of running shoes, make sure you give it a test run before making the buy.

What other pointers do I need?

  • If you enjoy wearing socks while running, then take your favorite pair of running socks along with you when shopping. This can help affect your overview of the shoes.
  • Are you going for a marathon or need shoes to help with your speed? With the help of the consultant attending to you at Asics stores in AU, you can get lighter running shoes but with enough cushioning and support to enable you to perform efficiently.
  • It is advisable not to settle for neutral running shoes when you over or under pronate. Wearing these types of running shoes for a long time when running, can affect your performance and overall enjoyment. Go for stability shoes that provide the needed support.
  • Do you have any problems that can affect your choice of shoes? Then, make sure you keep that in mind and communicate it to the consultant so that you can get shoes that are the perfect fit for you.
