Your home is where you are meant to feel safe and secure, but accidents do occasionally happen when you least expect it. With how much time we spend in our homes, having a medical kit or first aid kit within easy reach is always a great idea. Of course, for larger wounds, you should seek the help of a professional, but for minor abrasions, we can show you how to put together one that will fit your needs. Why Have One?

The world that we live in is an uncertain place, and unforeseen and tragic accidents do befall us. For small abrasions, like cutting your finger while chopping ingredients for dinner or scratching a mosquito bite open, small accidents do happen. Just for these times, it is important to have a medical kit in your home.

If you have children, you know that they can get into quite some scrapes. Having a first aid kit always at the ready can make them feel better when they are hurt. In the same way, having a first aid kit will put your mind at ease, knowing that you are prepared for every occurrence.

What Do I Put in It?

When putting together a medical kit that can help you when you are hurt, the first thing you should be concerned about is blood. You will want to add a sufficient supply of equipment meant to staunch the flow of blood and to stop it. Search a medical supply store online and find bandages, gauze, and everything else that you need.

You will also need several antibiotic items. Definitely pack it with some cream or salve, to rub on an open wound or sore so that it does not get infected. You will also want wipes or liquid in case you need to cover a large area.

Other items that should be in your home medical kit are for you to decide based on common injuries you sustain and possible needs. For example, if you are allergic to a substance to the point that you go into anaphylactic shock, you might want to add an EpiPen to the case. Similarly, if you suffer from severe asthma, it might be prudent to tuck in an emergency inhaler.

Does the Bag Matter?

This is your medical kit. The bag or container that you use is purely up to you and your imagination. However, there is something to be said with how well it is organized. Check out this packaging inspiration to see creative ideas for how to make the most out of the space it has inside.

There are a few things that you should add to the bag that you would not immediately think of. For example, if someone finds you unconscious, but your medical bag is near, maybe include a small pocket to hold a list of vital health information, including the phone numbers of your emergency contacts. If you can never find a bottle of headache medication, maybe you should slip in a bottle so you always know where a backup is.

Everyone, at some point in their life, will find themselves in need of a first aid kit. Put together two bags, one that you can keep at home, and one that you can place in the car for use when you are traveling. Use a medical kit to help you practice your organization, as the efficient packing of a first aid kit will help you easily and quickly locate the materials that you will need. Lastly, remember that your first aid kit does not have to be in a special bag or container, but it must be portable and easily accessible when you find yourself or someone that you love in trouble. If you have children or pets, you know how crazy life can be with them around. Whether they injure themselves, or injure you, having a first aid kit at hand is always a good move. For all ailments or injuries that do not require a trip to the emergency room, a first aid kit will more than adequately equip you.
